Aurora Borealis

Aurora Borealis

Oil paint on primed wood and frame.

50 x 60 x 6 cm

“Aurora Borealis” is a depiction of experiences in the nighttime landscape with psychedelics as remembered by the artist. Memories of altered states are a common theme in Matt’s work. The artist explains, “It’s a beautiful moment when the God’s seize your ego and fill your head with information you never knew you needed, the missing pieces you never knew were missing, and a depth of vision of the world you never believed good be had.”

“Aurora Borealis” is a good example of how psychedelics have shaped Matt’s aesthetic style and sense of color. A lush, hilly landscape radiates a neon-electric color pallet of green, red and blue. The colors of “Aurora Borealis’” world have a more real, than real feeling in the same way psychedelic experiences are described. The landscape looks real, but other-worldly.
