In the words of the artist:
Nihonga style painting from Japan has always been an influence in my work. In 2002, When I was a young artist in San Francisco I read, “The Unfettered Mind: Writings of the Zen Master to the Sword Master,” by Takuan Soho. The book reconfirmed for me a series of life lessons that I had somehow forgotten. Takuan Soho spoke to me. His words have influenced the way my body interacts with creative mediums. Paint has the ability to become the present moment and form a representation of Tao. My artworks are an attempt to connect with the source and form a record of it. As my work becomes more about brush work and the mark, I feel closer to the mystery.
