Here’s
our story, there’s a lot to be said about intersections. Aristotle
was using the concept thousands of years ago, saying “at the
intersection where your gifts, talents, and abilities meet a human
need; therein you will discover your purpose.” Presently, we still
consider the value of layering and overlapping ideas. American
artist, Kehinde Wiley says, “Artists are those people who sit at
the intersection between the known and unknown, the rational and
irrational, coming to terms with some of the confusing histories we,
as artists, deal with.” Guns and Roses guitarist, Slash has even
weighed in, reflecting that “being a rockstar is the intersection
of who you are and who you want to be.”
For our May, June 2023 exhibition: we’re intersecting the work of two Belgian artists with an American; we’re combining two-dimensional line work with three-dimensional; and we’re bringing together a painter, printer and sculptor. These three artists are exploring similar formal art concepts but arriving at their own uniquely different conclusions. This exhibition forms an intersection between painting, graphic design, and steel, biomorphic sculpture. Our aim is to generate a harmony between three different creative disciplines.
"Intersections" is an exhibition featuring Belgian artists, Palieter Hillewaere, Edouard Schneider and United States artist, David Benzler.
Palieter’s art works are an interesting combination of old-world and new-world technology. He uses computer software to workout the design of his ideas then materializes the work using CNC technologies. Along the way his creative process will revert to traditional blacksmithing techniques for the final execution of the work. The result is an intriguing 3D aesthetic that combines solid steel with the appearance of an ephemeral lightness. Palieter’s artworks look as whimsically placed in the environment as a leaf fallen from a tree, but upon further investigation the viewer will ironically come to realize they are quite heavy, solid and stable.
Edouard is a skilled designer working in a variety of analog and digital mediums. The design work is primarily computer aided then presented in a variety of formats. His work is sometimes printed onto a plywood surface and other times it is presented digitally on a flat screen, but is not limited to either of those two options. Edouard is often experimenting with a variety of surprising and unusual work surfaces and presentation formats.
David is interested in the in-between moments that exist through color and shape. working in a purposefully undefined adherence to style, he is free to move from subject to subject and explore media and technique in various different ways. David treasures the intimate small format of plein air landscape painting as well as exploring the impact of advertising and the super graphic world of color field mural painting. His dedication and daily discipline are reflected in the various oeuvres he has produced.
