David Benzler

Artist Statement:

I've always made "art" in some form or another, since I was very young.However, it was not until I attended junior college that I rediscovered my interest in drawing and subsequently painting. I have continued to pursue this endeavor ever since.

In 2010, being recently unemployed, I became interested in "Sign Writing"or sign painting as it is known in America, and after acquiring an apprenticeship at a local sign shop, I have made this pursuit my daily occupation. I am interested in letterforms as they exist in an abstract relationship to our visual landscape, directional or instructional experience, and everyday lives. 

I paint signs for a job, but explore in other paint media, the way shapes of letters intersect with our collective understanding of modern abstract relationships.I also paint landscapes mostly for leisure, but also on a commission basis,as a return to that greatest teacher among us: Nature.
