PERSPECTIVES
Perspectives presents a body of abstract paintings by Carrie Jean Goldsmith that examine surface, structure, and perception through a sustained, process-led engagement with paint. The exhibition positions abstraction as a means of testing how visual information is organized, disrupted, and reconfigured, rather than as a departure from observation.
Goldsmith constructs each work through successive acts of layering, editing, and concealment. Linear elements, shifts in density, and spatial interruptions establish a measured rhythm across the surface, while retaining traces of earlier decisions.
The works resist fixed orientation, encouraging a slower, more deliberate mode of viewing. Perspective shifts as the eye moves across the surface, with no single point of resolution. Edges remain provisional, and areas of density are balanced with openness, allowing the structure to emerge gradually without becoming fixed.
While subtle spatial suggestions may evoke distant landscape associations, these remain peripheral. The emphasis lies in abstraction as a framework for considering how perspective, material, and process intersect.
