Carrie Jean Goldsmith

Carrie's paintings find their way into the English landscape tradition, but push those barriers. Her paintings are more abstractions than landscape, but all the necessary markings, compositional decisions, and color you'd associate with the genre are at play. She often - but not always - composes in portrait format which also gives the body of work a unique perspective on our common understanding of the landscape. Her painted realms often feature a singular light source that dramatizes the space and simplifies what feels like a much more complicated composition, like the Baroque works of Claude Lorrain or J. M. W. Turner. Carrie’s paintings spotlight the beauty of our shared psychological landscape.
